First Global Maintenance Day celebrated by Asset Management SocietyIndia (AMSI)

Asset Management Society, India celebrated the first Global Maintenance Day on the 09 th June 2023, a day to promote and celebrate the value of maintenance in our lives. Maintenance is an activity that takes place all around us positively affecting the world we live in, as individuals, families, organisations or communities. Besides it’s main task of keeping things running, good maintenance has many positive influences and impact that we do not consider at first glance such as economic benefit, sustainable development and increased safety.

Global Maintenance Day is initiated by the Global Forum on Maintenance & Asset Management (GFMAM) to put forward the importance of maintenance in different aspects of life. AMSI is closely associated with GFMAM and its activities.

The Chief Guest for the inaugural was Col Rudra Kumar Jadeja, MD and CEO KRAS Kalyani Group. He spoke about Atmanirbhar Bharat and how we can harness the global MRO footprint. He spoke on three aspects - value addition that happens because of maintenance, how technology is becoming an enabler to leverage value and last but not the least,the focus as to not only to become atmanirbhar but go further and express globally. Maintenance has become an enabler, a key wordfor sustainability requirement to reduce the carbon footprint.He spoke about creating an echo system at the student levelwherethey must be given a focus during their internships and project which needs to be more frequent than just one in the final year.

Prof Raghuvir Pai President AMSI spoke on the role of asset management and the human factors essential “soft” skills will determine how maintenance managers will significantly contribute to the co-ordinated activities of an organization.With the development of intelligent and autonomous machines, the challenges of MRO are going to be different and many employees won't have the skills needed for these new technical roles and could get left behind if companies don't upskill their workforces.

The inaugural was followed by excellent presentations by Lt Gen Anil Kapoor,AVSM, VSM,DGEME and Vice President and Chair National Advisory Committee, AMSI on “ Humanising Assets-Future Technology and MRO Perspective”. Mr Amish Jani, Head CoE – Corrosion Engineering, Static Reliability, Reliance Corporate Park,Navi Mumbai spoke on “Maintenance Business Process overview & Nuggets of wisdom”.

The two presentations were followed by a panel discussion on “Atmanirbhar Bharat- Harnessing the Global MRO Footprint” . Lt Gen Kapoor moderated the panel discussion. Four panellists spoke on various issue’s concerning atmanirbharta and how the global MRO footprint can be a boon for India. The challenges will be there but we have the largest pool of technically trained people in the world and this is the right moment to make the right moves. The idea of MRO startups in India was proposed by Brig YVR Vijay who at 62 is one of them who has a startup in MRO. Other speakers in the panel were Col Sunil Yadav (Retired), Chairman, National Technical Committee AMSI, Mr Satish Bharatan, GM, & Head, Weapon & Engineering Systems (Land Portfolio) Defence IC, Larsen & Toubro LimitedBrig YVR Vijay (Retired) Former COO, SUZLON, Mr SatyeshaSimha, CGM (Retired) BEML. All of them gave a scintillating account of MRO issue’s and challenges.

Mr Amit Kapur Vice President AMSI welcomed the gathering, Dr Ganesh and Dr Girish introduced the speakers, Dr Binu K G Treasurer AMSI gave the vote of thanks and Ms Mahua Banerjee was the master of ceremony.
